MELTON & DISTRICT IBC TO HOST NATIONAL
FINALS FOR YOUNG BOWLERS
Thirty-two of England’s best young bowlers
will be taking part in the English Bowls Youth Development Scheme (EBYDS)
National School of Excellence at Melton & District Indoor Bowls Club on Sunday 28th
October from 9.30am.
The players, aged from eight to 18, qualified
for the prestigious event following a series of county and regional
qualifying events over the last 12 months.
During the day all of the
players will participate in a series of matches and skills tests to
determine the winners.
Many previous winners of the event have gone
on to represent England at international level, including Sian Gordon who is
heading off to the World Championships in Autsralia later this year.
Bernard Millard, Chair of the EBYDS, explained: “The EBYDS is jointly-funded
by Bowls England and the English Indoor Bowling Association Ltd, and
provides a firm basis for young bowlers to develop in the sport, with many
of the international selectors and managers on hand to see them in action. I
would like to thank all of those clubs and county officials that have given
their time and facilities this year to host the county and regional events,
and also Melton & District IBC for their assistance in staging the National Finals.”
