Imagine Cruising Premier Threes Final
Clarrie Dunbar’s Graham Shadwell has won the first ever Premier Threes
EIBA event, headline sponsored by Imagine Cruising.
Shadwell beat England international Neil McKee (Kingsthorpe) in a superb
final, held at Erewash IBC.
McKee, who had been in great touch throughout
the competition, drew first blood in the first set, winning it 1-3, but
Shadwell bounced back with resounding success in the second, claiming it 5-0
and taking the game to a deciding set. It was fitting that the game went
down to the final end, with the pair of them tied at 1-1 after two ends.
Shadwell drew close behind the jack and complemented this by trailing the
jack to his opening bowl and lying two excellent shots. McKee’s final effort
was exceptional, but rubbed the wrong side of Shadwell’s nearest bowl and
fell out of the head, rather than in it.
On his way to
the final, Shadwell beat Torquay United’s Louis Ridout in the semis,
claiming the first set 4-1, losing the second 1-3 and winning the third 3-2
after a brilliant opening bowl on the final end with the scores level as
2-2.
Malvern Hills’ Luke Harwood put up a valiant effort in the
quarter-final against Shadwell, but ultimately relinquished the game in
straight sets, 3-2, 2-1, whilst Shadwell got past Stanley’s Brett Arkley in
the last 16, tying the first set 3-3, winning the second 3-2 (saving set
with the last bowl) and claiming the third 3-0.
Shadwell was delighted to
win the event:
“I think it’s really good fun and short and snappy. I
enjoyed every minute and am delighted to win the tournament.”
