IZZIE WHITE HAS HER SIGHTS ON HOLDING THE MOST
ACCOLADES IN BOWLS IN HER PROLIFIC BOWLING FAMILY
"I was given a massive opportunity to be able to trial and
to be selected for both is a huge honour and I'm ready to run
with it and give it my all!"
After a fabulous outdoor season, being crowned the Bowls England
Women's National Singles Champion, Izzie White has been selected for
the EIBA under 25 and women's international teams for the first
time:
"I'm absolutely over the moon; definitely a little shocked but I
was given a massive opportunity to be able to trial for both and now
to be selected for both is a huge honour and I'm ready to run with
it and give it my all!
"I'm looking forward to playing in a
different atmosphere with different people that I haven't played
with before on the international stage. It will be a completely new
experience, as I am also gaining my first ever senior international
cap, with hopefully many more to come!
"I had absolutely no
expectations - being new to the indoor world I didn't even expect to
get two trials! All I wanted to do was go out and show that I
deserved a trial and play as well as I possibly could, I definitely
didn't expect to get into the team on my first attempt!"
Although she admits outdoor bowls 'holds her heart', Izzie loves the
consistency of playing indoors. "You can actually play the same bowl
over and over again," she added.
"I also enjoy the challenge;
it is so unbelievably different to outdoor that it's a complete
change of pace (literally) but it's a new skill that I'm learning
and it challenges me every time I go onto the green. This season is
going to be an ever-changing learning curve that's for sure!"
After beating Isle of Wight's Anne Bernard in the final of the
National Singles in the summer, Izzie said: "It feels absolutely
incredible; it's something that I have dreamt of since I was little
girl.
"It's something that you aspire to achieve, but you
don't really know what to expect until it happens and my goal for
this season was to qualify in main events, other than the juniors. I
achieved this and then some by winning the national singles, I took
it to a whole other level, however I have always been a
perfectionist!"
Izzie, a newly qualified teacher, got into
bowls through her Nan and Dad.
"My brother and sister have also played since they were young, and I
always wanted to join them," Izzie added. "I was finally allowed at
the age of eight! Both my brother and sister have qualified to the
Bowls England National Finals previously, my sister Sophie Inchley
also being a national title winner in the under 25 pairs with Amy
Walters (was Stanton) in 2011. I've always wanted to beat her number
of titles, I have now!
"I love the versatility of the sport,
the ability to play different disciplines and with a variety of
players of any age or ability. I obviously love the competitiveness,
as I always want to win and aspire to do well within the sport. I
also love the social side of the sport and the fact that every year
I have been to nationals, since I first started qualifying, I have
made new friends every single year and it also allows me to keep in
touch with old friends too!"
Other highlights for Izzie are
winning the Bowls England Junior Women's Singles at the age of 16,
winning the under 25 pairs with her best friend Maddie Burgess and
representing England outdoors for the first time.
She said:
"It is an amazing feeling to represent England; it is a chance to
play with people around the country who you don't see all year
round. It is an opportunity to learn from one another as players but
also to learn from an incredibly experienced management team. I have
been fortunate to consistently represent England, since I was 17."
Izzie would love to be involved in World Championships and
Commonwealth Games.
"I think that is every competitive
bowler's dream! I would also love to win a national title with my
dad or any of my family, as for me bowls is a family sport," she
added.
