PRESS RELEASE:
KEMPSTON BOWLERS RECEIVE ENERGY SAVING BOOST
Kempston Park Indoor Bowls Club is set to get an
energy saving makeover, thanks to a £58,000 grant.
The facility in Hillgrounds Road will get new LED lighting, a new heating system, air conditioning, and a replacement bowling carpet.
It is expected that the refurbishments will save the Club more than £10,000 a year in energy bills.
Rita Clifford-Pendleton, Management Committee Chairwoman, said
“This project will provide a comfortable environment for all our users throughout the year, and make major energy savings.”
Alan Ratcliffe, Club President, said:
“This is great news. The grant gives a major boost to our place at the heart of the Kempston community, and the total project will provide great
facilities for bowlers and all our user groups ”.
Gillian French, Biffa Award, said: “We´re really pleased to be supporting such a great project with a grant
from the Landfill Communities Fund. Hopefully the redevelopment of Kempston Park will mark the beginning of an exciting new period in the Club´s
development ”.
The building is used by a number of community organisations, including the Wheelstars, Tibbs Dementia Group, Bedford Headway, and a craft group, and offers bowling,
and bowls coaching as part of the Bedford Borough Council Reactivate scheme.
It is also available for wakes, weddings, parties and general social activities including quiz and race nights and choir concerts.
The grant is thanks to the Biffa Award - a multi- million pound fund that helps to build communities and transform lives
through awarding grants to community and environmental projects across the UK as part of the Landfill Communities Fund.
