Press Release
National Award for Newark Indoor Bowls and
Boccia Club
John Hope (Pictured below) of Newark Indoor Bowls and Boccia Club who
won the 2014 Newark and Sherwood Sports Volunteer Award and Nottinghamshire
County Award for 2014 to complete a hat trick by winning Boccia England’s
National Volunteer Award for 2014.
Club Director Colin Moore quotes ‘This is the
final accolade for John’s efforts in introducing and developing the
Paralympic sport of Boccia in the club by being rewarded by the national
body of the sport. It is less than eighteen months since John travelled
across to Lancashire to attend a Boccia Leaders course having persuaded the
directors of the club that Boccia could play an important part in our
development. Since that time we have run a leaders course here in Newark
with four of our own members qualifying; been recognised as an Inspired
Facility by Sport England together with a £47K grant;, run a Boccia
tournament; have three groups playing the game regularly and won four awards
in Newark & Sherwood Sports awards with two other finalists.'
