CHURCH GRESLEY & CARLTON CHALLENGE CUP
Church Gresley and Carlton junior bowls teams had
the spectators on their feet for the nail biting finish to the junior
Challenge cup.
Church Gresley trailed in the competition played over two legs by six ends having lost the home leg to Carlton during the summer
and at half time Cartlon had increased their lead to ten ends. But Church Gresley started to get used to the pace of the away green and pulled back to
level pegging in the second half.
With four teams of pairs playing the lead changed several times until the very end when Carlton had regained a two end lead
with only two teams left to complete their games. 14 year old Ethan Holmes of Church Gresley trailed the jack on the last bowl of their game to
take shot and reduce the lead to one.
With only one team still playing Carlton were holding shot and looked like winning the cup when Jack Hart delivered a wonderful
bowl under immense pressure and surrounded by parents and spectators who had left their seats and were standing on the edge of the rink watching to take
shot and make a draw.
Who says that children do not like competition! All of the youngsters and parents had a great day and the clubs will hold the
cup for six months each the juniors from both clubs were well behaved and a credit to the sport.
