BIIBC INTERNATIONAL SERIES at DEWARS STADIUM, PERTH 11th
- 13th MARCH 2010
The international series in Perth proved once again to provide a
stirring advertisement for the game of bowls - the excitement was
evident throughout the series of games and culminated in a pulsating
finale as England drew the game with Scotland to loft the Hilton Trophy
high into the scottish skies.
England beat both wales and ireland
in the opening games and were resplendent in their new England tops. The
team displayed great spirit, skill and determination to easily overcome
the welsh and irish teams. With one tactical change made to the team
england went into the final game with scotland knowing a draw was
sufficient to win the trophy.
The game was a tight affair all
the way through from start to finish - a four hour marathon of skilful,
precise bowling culminating in scotland needing 2 to win the game and 1
to draw on the final end. With the scottish skip dragging the jack into
the ditch the atmosphere was electric from the 800+ crowd. However the
cheers were for England as the scotland skip failed to draw a second
bowl and the England team rushed onto the green knowing they had won the
series.
All the players were a credit to the game - a fantastic
result - a fantastic team performance!!!
