Acle Trophy back on English soil!
England faced a tough opening match against Wales, who were playing on
familiar rinks, in front of a large home crowd and clearly confident. A good
win on Kylie Hamptons rink help settle any initial nerves and England won
74-66.
The afternoon match against Ireland could have been tricky as
they had only lost to Scotland by 16 shots and were clearly on a high.
However, England dominated from the start and went on to win on each rink
and overall 128-40.
The old England v Scotland battle was a clear cut
– win or be runner up! With this challenge ahead, the selectors made a
couple of changes and prepared the team for the decider. England took a hold
on the game from the start and by 5 ends were 15 shots ahead. Kylie
Hampton’s rink again rose to the occasion, played some brilliant bowls and
scored well against a strong rink skipped by the experienced G Blaire. This
allowed the other rinks to keep things tight and hold off the late Scottish
fight back. Sensibly the team played and made solid shot decisions emerging
victorious with a 76-69 win.
Overall a good England performance and
very satisfying to bring the trophy back where it belongs.
