RECRUIT & RETAIN
OPEN DAYS
With the new Indoor season nearly upon us, many of our Clubs will be looking to stage one or several Open Days, to attract new members. To assist the EIBA have provided a list of activities for Clubs to consider and maximising the exposure of the Open Day(s).

It is best that several are used in conjunction rather than relay on one method: -

Flyers
It is worth investing in several 000’s of full colour, quality paper so that they stand out from other marketing material which is put through peoples’ letterboxes or on display in local supermarkets, libraries, Health centres etc.

Have a clear and simple message along with a special offer available for people who come along and sign up for membership and or taster sessions. This will encourage people to attend on that day rather than leave it for another day, which invariably never happens.

Also, it is recommended that you track the flyers so you can identify which area of activity or location was more popular. The easiest way is to ask the person joining how they heard about the Club when they join. Please do this for all new members as they may have got the leaflet / heard via other marketing activities, after the open day but want to play bowls.

Banners
These are an inexpensive way to advertise the Open Day and or the Club in general. They can be fixed on the fence, wall or entrance to the club and be visible 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Word of mouth
encourage your current members to invite friends and family along to the open day. To incentivise you could offer them a discount of their own membership if they introduce a member. A small discount is off-set by the new membership fee..

Social media / website
Put in place a weekly message on the club’s social media channels and in the week before the Open Day one every couple of days.

Ask other organisations if they can promote your open day on their website / social media. These include Active Sports Partnerships, Local Council leisure departments, local press, library, Parish council.

Attend events
There are numerous events hosted in the town or county eg fetes, fairs and should be considered for having a small stand or stall at them to hand out leaflets and or get people to sign up for taster sessions.

To help provide a consistent marketing approach the EIBA have developed it’s ‘Smiley Face’ message Clubs can access from the EIBA website and insert their own details. These include posters, banners and pull up displays.
