Bowls Development Alliance
Press Release
Friday 13th December 2013
More people are playing bowls!
Today saw the release of the latest Active People data, the survey carried
out by Sport England to evidence how active the population are.
The
evidence shows that there has been an increase in participation of those
aged 55 and over playing bowls and that the opportunity for those aged 16
and over with a disability to play the sport is at a satisfactory level with
more opportunities being developed.
This is fantastic news for bowls
and in particular for all those clubs who have been actively recruiting new
players.
Bowls is an ideal activity for those coming up to early
retirement who are keen to remain healthy and active and who may wish to
play bowls with friends as a social activity or who are keen to play in a
more competitive environment at their local club.
150 indoor and
outdoor clubs have successfully applied for funding from the Bowls
Development Alliance (BDA) to support them with their recruitment drive and
more and more clubs are using the Play Bowls Road Show to showcase the sport
in city centres, County Shows, Garden Centres and even supermarket car
parks!
The Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014 will showcase bowls
and this is another opportunity for clubs to plan Play Bowls Days and Play
Bowls 4Fun sessions around the dates of this big event. People watching
bowls on TV will want to try the sport and we will be ready with that
opportunity.
Congratulations to all those bowls clubs and volunteers
who have contributed to this success story.
