Bowls Development Alliance Press Release
Bowls scores legacy investment of £2 million
Bowls England and the English Indoor Bowling Association
Ltd are delighted to announce that the Bowls Development Alliance has today
received notification from Sport England that it has been successful in
securing a further four years of funding taking the work of the BDA through
to March 2017.
The BDA Alliance has been awarded £2m to deliver the
new “Growing the Sport of Bowls” plan in 2013-2017. The plan focuses on
working in identified Hot Spot areas where there is both a high density of
those 55 years and over and a proven latent demand for bowls. For the
first time there will be packages of funding available across the whole
country to help clubs recruit new members specifically over 55 years of age.
There will also be health related projects and an
improvement in opportunities for those with a disability.
This award builds on the work of the BDA over the past two
years and provides an opportunity to grow the sport of Bowls particularly of
those coming up to early retirement who are looking to take up a new
activity that will keep them fit and active.
Sport England’s Director of Sport, Lisa O’Keefe said:
“Bowls is widening it’s appeal and image through its vision to help people
live longer, healthier and more fulfilling lives. We are confident in the
plans of the Bowls Development Alliance to grow the sport and enable people
to play sport for longer.”
Full details of how this funding will be used to recruit
new members will be available from February 2013.
